THIS POST WILL SOLVE YOUR ALL KITCHEN PROBLEMS...
Since we tend to spend a lot of time in our kitchens, it should be a comfortable space to work in, and should also ensure stress-free cooking. However, if your kitchen feels unwelcoming and is prone to a lot of chaos then it is time to reorganise and realign the space. Experts identify the troublesome areas of the kitchen and give solutions to make it a calm and peaceful space.
Problem 1: Absence of Natural Light
“If there is no natural light in the kitchen, a combination of ambient lighting and task lighting is the way to go. All downlights should be directed towards the overhead cabinets so that the countertops are also well-lit. Since a single light fixture creates a lot of shadow, multiple lighting sources should be incorporated to create an overlapping effect which prevents dark parches in the kitchen. Introduce LED strip lights under the overhead cabinets to provide focussed illumination on the countertop, hob and sink .One can also upgrade the look of the space by highlighting certain design features and creating a floating effect by introducing strip lights at the skirting of the kitchen island,” says Surbhi Jindal, Founder, CEO & Principal Lighting Designer of Mumbai-based, DaLightHub
“Consider an open kitchen or create a semi-open kitchen with a breakfast counter if the kitchen is devoid of natural light. This is one of the best ways to make the space look bigger while the windows of the living cum dining space take care of the light and ventilation of the kitchen. In case the kitchen is attached to a utility area then introduce a glass cut-out in the wall between the kitchen and the utility room to bring in natural light,” suggests Sounak Sen Barat founder of House of Three Interiors, Bangalore.
Problem 2: No Space for Overhead Cabinets
“In some compact kitchens, the presence of a chimney and window does not leave any wall space for the overhead cabinets. In such a scenario, install midway systems which include wall-mounted shelves and racks for keeping the frequently-used items of the kitchen. If space permits, install a tall-unit for storing items like glassware, grocery items, utensils and so on. Install loft units with lift up style cabinets above the lintel level of the window to increase vertical storage,” says Bharat Pathak, Pune-based modular kitchen expert and trainer.
Problem 3: Cluttered Kitchen
“Organise the kitchen by keeping the counters clear and allocate specific zones for keeping utensils, dry grocery, electronic gadgets and glassware. Declutter the kitchen regularly by removing unnecessary things like broken items, old boxes, take away boxes and kitchen ingredients which have crossed their expiry date,” says Rohini Rajagopalan Mumbai-based certified professional organiser and founder of Organise with Ease.
Problem 4: Kitchen Odours
“A chimney with a high suction power is a must-have for every kitchen as it helps in creating a space which is free from odours, smoke and soot,” suggests Barat. Clean the kitchen on a daily basis as foul odours may also be produced by moisture in the sink, dirty kitchen towels, food particles, spills, clogged drains and from the trash bin.
Problem 5: Pest Infestation
“Go for a periodic pest control service after every four months and maintain the hygiene of the kitchen so that the food residue and spills do not attract pests. The latest pest control method is hassle-free because a herbal gel is applied with a gun in the hard-to-reach areas of the kitchen and one does not have to empty the kitchen during the service,” explains Roopak Sisodia from Delhi-NCR-based Specialist Pest Control Pvt. Ltd.
